Need Of Socrates In Modern World...

Image
Socrates was a Greek philosopher from Athens who is credited as one of the founders of Western philosophy, and as being the first moral philosopher of the Western ethical tradition of thought. An enigmatic figure, he made no writings and is known chiefly through the accounts of classical writers writing after his lifetime, particularly his students Plato and Xenophon. Other sources include the contemporaneous Antisthenes, Aristippus, and Aeschines of Sphettos. Aristophanes, a playwright, is the main contemporary author to have written plays mentioning Socrates during Socrates' lifetime, though a fragment of Ion of Chios' Travel Journal provides important information about Socrates' youth. Socrates, who lived from 470 to 399 B.C., is separated from us by nearly two and one-half millennia. This means that he had not in common with our progressive age the automobile, the airplane, the television, the computer, the telephone (whether cellular or regular), video games, virtu

Pythagoras

Image
The Pythagoreans in Greece, followers of the famous mathematician and philosopher, Pythagoras, were the first to discover numbers that were not rationals, around 400 BC. These are called irrational numbers because they cannot be written in form of the ratio of integers. There are many myths surrounding the discovery of Irrational numbers by the Pythagorean, Hipparchus of Croton.  No authentic writings of Pythagoras have survived and almost nothing is known for certain about his life. The earliest sources on Pythagoras's life are brief, ambiguous, and often satirical. The earliest source on Pythagoras's teachings is a satirical poem probably written after his death by Xenophanes of Colophon, who had been one of his contemporaries. In the poem, Xenophanes describes Pythagoras interceding on behalf of a dog that is being beaten, professing to recognize in its cries the voice of a departed friend. Alcmaeon of Croton, a doctor who lived in Croton at around the same time Pythagoras l

Why 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami was the Deadliest?

Image
"The Great Indian Ocean Tsunami Of 2004" When we hear this, this brings Goosebumps because it brought massive damages and more number of death. The earthquake before the tsunami released the energy of 23,000 Hiroshima type atomic bombs.  The tectonic plates in this area had been pushing against each other and building pressure for thousands of years.  Nearly 230,000 people died in the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami.  This Tsunami lasted almost 10 minutes. States of emergency were declared in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and The Maldives. The United Nations estimated at the outset that the relief operation would be the costliest in human history. Governments and non-governmental organizations feared that the final death toll might double as a result of diseases, prompting a massive humanitarian response. There was also a great concern that the death toll could increase as disease and hunger spread. However, because of the initial quick response, this was minimized. For

Tamil Folklore Traditions!!!

Image
Dance or Nadagam forms an integral part of the culture of Tamil Nadu, with its origin stemming from the ancient dance-drama form, called Therukoothu. Traditional folk dances of Tamil Nadu include several individuals and group forms, some of which are now being practiced not only for their heritage but also for their entertainment quotient. The tribal dances of Tamil Nadu include dances from the simplest form of a puppet show to the Poikkal Kuthirai Attam. Many of the dance forms practiced are woven around a story, intended to entertain the audience or to pay homage to a deity. Dancers dress in animal costumes for many dances in Tamil Nadu, showing the strong connection between nature and the Gods. They dress like a peacock for Mayil Attam, as a horse while performing Poikkal Kuthirai, as a bull in Kaalai Attam, snake-like dress for Paampu Attam and as a bear in Karadi Attam Here we give a list of Tamil Folklore Traditions: Kummiyattam Paraiyattam Therukoothu Kai Silambaattam Sila
